Biography
Jasminder views the body and mind as important vehicles requiring holistic fuel such as nurturance and kindness. A nurtured body and kind mind will help to eradicate the obstacles life may bring (from backaches, breathing difficulties panic attacks to stressful living). Jasmin believes Yoga and Psychological skills help address disharmony and create balance in life.
It was whilst studying Psychology, that Jasminder gained her first experiences of meditation (Zazen and Vipassana). An active student she participated in sports such as hockey, aerobics and running. Becoming aware of the release of tension for the body when the mind focused on a particular activity. Her undergraduate thesis focused on the correlation between mood elevation and exercise, how people who exercise tend to feel more optimistic about life.
Through serendipity Jasminder came across her first Yoga instructor, a highly experienced elderly Yoga teacher (who was in her late 70s). This spurred the on-going journey to explore the mind, body and breath connection. She took a gap year from her post-graduate studies, travelling to the Himalayas where she trained with Swami Govindanada as a Hatha Yoga Teacher.
She continues to explore mental and physical wellbeing, through meditation, yoga and psychology. Jasmin is a chartered Psychologist, Clinical Supervisor and EMDR Practitioner and qualified Yoga practitioner. Mens sana in corpore sano a sound mind in a sound body (initially espoused by Homer in Greece) is the demeanor of all the sessions undertaken with Jasminder Bahia
She employs mindful practices, simple breathing techniques and posture work as appropriate within her psychological work. Along with instructions for deep relaxation techniques, especially when dealing with sleep deprivation, stress and/or trauma history. In addition psychological well-being and motivational inputs along with deep relaxation awareness are incorporated into Bahia Yoga sessions.
Please note that Yoga (classes/ workshops) and (one to one) Psychological services are provided separately. To ensure ethical and professional boundaries are maintained, no crossover from one service to the other is encouraged or offered to clients or students. For example from a private psychological session to attend group Yoga classes (and vice-versa).
