What is Restorative Yoga? Where can I find a Restorative Yoga class in Nottingham?
This class is ideal for all levels of Yoga experience, including newbies to Yoga. Suitable for someone who has an injury, or if you are experiencing stress. The class is also open to people who have done Yoga before. Each week the postures and practice gently progress, a sense of learning and understanding of Yoga take places.
The recuperative and restorative postures are done slowly, with ease and detail. These postures are then sequenced to bring along some simple fluid and flowing movement with the breath. This is a mindful, gentle, yet invigorating and uplifting class. The restorative yoga classes are held in Nottingham City Centre, NG1.
What about the classes for more experienced Yogis? Where can I find a dynamic Yoga class in Nottingham?
This class is designed for people who have some prior experience of Yoga (at least 9 to 12 months months Yoga attendance), or attended prior courses with Bahia Yoga. These classes are called Hatha Flow, or Dynamic Hatha. During these classes Yoga students are encouraged to practise inversions, balances, deeper breath awareness and to develop and continue their own practise. Who can attend the Yoga Workshops? Where can I find Yoga Workshops in Nottingham? Yoga Workshops are open to various levels of ability. Please check that the Workshop you are interested in is suitable for your level of ability. The Yoga Workshops are a fun way to connect with your Yoga practice. The Workshops are run for a half or full day and are run during evenings and weekends. The Yoga workshops are held across various venues in Nottingham. The Yoga workshop locations include Nottingham City Centre, Sherwood, Carrington and New Basford.
What type of Yoga is taught at Bahia Yoga in Nottingham?
The Hatha styles inspired by Sivananda, Iyengar and Asthanga Vinyasa Flow. The classes follow the application of Vinyasa Krama, sequenced flowing postures, including dynamic, static and restorative poses. Jasminder and other Bahia Yoga teachers are influenced by various styles of Yoga and incorporates up to date training and knowledge within all sessions. The main focus on all classes is working with the breath. Working creatively with fluid and dynamic movement yet concentrating on correct and safe alignment within the postures.
The intensity and depth of each class varies. Dependant on the the themes, classes include gentle silence and deep stillness. Some classes are fluid, flowing, linking movement to breath, flowing freely from one posture to another. All classes encourage you to find your own pace and to work within your capabilities, yet gently push you to a comfortable edge that brings a deeper glow to your practice. Remember Yoga is non-competitive, unlike other activities, you can view Yoga as a life long companion, that can be adapted and changed with the various stages to fit with your life style.
Am I expected to attend the same Yoga class each week?
YES. Please commit to attending a particular class if however, for any reason you are unable to attend it is possible for you to swap to another day, providing you check availability (and give prior notice that you are going to miss your regular session). For example if you are unable to attend a session on a Monday morning, with advance arrangement you can attend a Wednesday evening session. Please be mindful this is only applicable to classes missed during a one week period. Classes missed are not rolled over to the following week. Finally please remember a replacement class may not be available during the same for week e.g if all classes are full, or if there is a reduced timetable that week.
Yoga and pregnancy:
Can I do Yoga if I’m pregnant? Where can I find Pregnancy Yoga classes in Nottingham?
Yes, after the first 16 weeks.
All of Bahia Yoga classes can be tailored for pregnant ladies, though please be prepared for modifications to the postures, always remember to work at a pace that suits you. This pace will most likely be different to others in the class, due to the intensity of some of the postures, always listen to your own body and enjoy a more restorative Yoga practice during your pregnancy.
Bahia Yoga also offers specialist Pregnancy Yoga classes, if you wish to attend this class instead of a general group Yoga class, please advise ASAP. Pregnant Yoginis will be required to fill out a pregnancy registration form (different to the general registration form). Class preparation:
Can I attend a Yoga class if I’m late?
Please note late arrivals can be disruptive to the class, 5-10 minutes leeway is allowed in exceptional circumstances. Please do your best to be on time. If you know in advance you could arrive late, please inform your teacher. This way he or she can ensure you have access to the venue. Please be considerate to other Yoga students when entering the Yoga space.
What will I need to bring? If you are new to Yoga and do not have a mat, you will be offered a mat for the first 6 weeks. Thereafter, you are encouraged to bring along your own Yoga mat. Please also bring along a blanket, foam blocks and belt. These products can be ordered via Bahia Yoga, or by contacting the supplier direct.

What shall I wear for a Yoga class?
Wear light, loose clothing, preferably made of natural fibres, that does not restrict your movement and you feel comfortable in. Bring a blanket or warm clothes for the relaxation part of the class (a warm jumper and socks).
Can I eat before a Yoga class?
Please avoid exercising on a full stomach; allow 2-3 hours after a meal or 1 hour after a snack. However, remember to be mindful of any medical condition which may differ to this requirement, especially if you are diabetic, or pregnant.
Can I do Yoga when I’m menstruating?
You can still come along to Yoga, providing this is OK for your body. Though please note some schools of Yoga encourage you not to attend Yoga, and to take a few days off. Depending on your body, you are welcome to attend Yoga, though you are strictly asked not do any inverted postures (such as head or shoulder stand) where you could potentially reverse the blood flow. Some women prefer not to attend Yoga for the first few days of their menstrual cycle; this is an individual choice for each woman. Please be mindful to your body. You can still do Yoga, though you may wish to shift the focus to more restorative poses and deeper breath work. As always it is important to be respectful to your body, and trust what is right for you as an individual. Yoga is not a competition where one pushes the body too far, especially when rest maybe needed, Yoga is a science and discipline which encourages deep awareness and respect for the body.
Can I do Yoga if I have an injury? Please ask for advice from your GP, (the same applies if you obtain injuries during a Yoga term -seek approval from your GP), always inform your teacher of any ailments and injuries and the advice given to you by your Doctor.
Can I get changed for my Yoga class at the venue?
Yes, there are changing facilities available. Please arrive in plenty of time to change at the venue beforehand. Please note if you need to change this needs to be done before the class begins.
Other information:
- Please turn off your mobile phones during the class.
- Please place your bags/possessions away from the mats (or in the lockable room).
- Keep the mat space clear and free from obstruction.
- Please be mindful of space, especially if Yoga mats are placed close to each other.
- Shoes/trainers to be left away from mats, and outside the Yoga room.
- Please note your teacher is available for questions and answers in person (pre or post the Yoga sessions).
- All classes, courses and workshops are to be booked in advance.
